Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Phenomenal Launch

A Resounding Success Across All Platforms

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has experienced a phenomenal launch, achieving massive sales and earning widespread critical acclaim across all platforms. Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that the game sold over 1 million copies by February 4th, 2025—a significant achievement that far outpaces its predecessor, which took over nine days to reach the same milestone.

According to SteamDB, KCD2 boasted 176,285 concurrent players within six hours of launch (at the time of writing), eclipsing KCD1's all-time peak of 96,069 players. Furthermore, KCD2 secured a prominent 12th position among all PlayStation games in the U.S. as featured on the PS Store homepage (at the time of writing).

The game also received a "Mighty" rating from OpenCritic, boasting a score of 89 and an impressive 97% critic recommendation rate.

KCD2's Creative Director Addresses Negative Feedback

Despite the overwhelmingly positive reception from fans and critics, KCD2 has not been without its detractors. Creative Director Daniel Vávra addressed some negative reviews on Twitter (X), acknowledging the disparity between the generally high ratings and some significantly lower scores from specific outlets.

Certain video game review sites provided KCD2 with considerably lower scores than its average rating, often describing the gameplay as a "slog" or requiring more effort than expected. This impacted the overall OpenCritic aggregate score. Vávra responded to these criticisms on Twitter (X), offering a pointed, yet sarcastic, commentary on what he perceived as inconsistent journalistic standards.

Ongoing Online Discussions Surrounding KCD2

Vávra also engaged with online criticism targeting KCD2's inclusion of same-sex romance options. He publicly addressed several Metacritic user reviews that labeled KCD2 as a "historically inaccurate DEI game" on Twitter (X), encouraging fans to review the game and report any bot-generated negative comments on review sites.

He reiterated that the LGBTQ+ content is entirely optional, emphasizing the player's agency in choosing how to experience the game's open-world medieval setting and its diverse role-playing opportunities.
