As the Bloodborne PSX Demake Becomes the Latest Fan-Project to Suffer a Copyright Claim, the Creator of Bloodborne's 60fps Mod Has Offered His ‘Copium’ Official Remake Theory

Sony's copyright claims against Bloodborne fan projects are intensifying. Following a DMCA takedown of the popular Bloodborne 60fps mod last week, Lilith Walther's Bloodborne PSX demake has now been targeted. A YouTube video showcasing the demake received a copyright claim from MarkScan Enforcement, a company confirmed by modder Lance McDonald to be working on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment. This is the same company that issued the DMCA for McDonald's 60fps patch.

McDonald speculates that Sony's actions are preemptive, clearing the way for an official 60fps remake or remaster. He suggests that removing fan projects from search results related to "Bloodborne 60fps" and "Bloodborne remake" is necessary for trademarking these phrases.

The lack of official support for Bloodborne, despite its critical acclaim and persistent fan demand for a next-gen patch, remaster, or sequel, remains a significant mystery. While recent advancements in PS4 emulation have enabled near-remaster quality gameplay at 60fps, Sony's response has been aggressive rather than accommodating.

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida offered a theory: Hidetaka Miyazaki, Bloodborne's creator, cherishes the game so deeply that he's reluctant to allow anyone else to work on it, including himself due to his busy schedule. Yoshida suggests PlayStation respects Miyazaki's wishes.

Despite Miyazaki's past comments deflecting questions about Bloodborne's future and acknowledging FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership, he previously admitted the game would benefit from a release on modern hardware. The situation leaves Bloodborne's future uncertain, nearly a decade after its initial release.
