The developers of ASTRA: Knights of Veda, FLINT, are set to remove English dubbing support from the game on January 23, 2025, aiming to enhance "game stability and higher-quality localizations." The announcement was made on January 20, detailing a Language Support adjustment to improve localizations and ensure smoother gameplay.

During the regular maintenance on January 23, support for languages such as German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian will be discontinued. However, FLINT will continue to support Korean, English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian.

While English language support remains, the in-game English voiceovers will be removed. Post-maintenance, "countries outside of Korea will now have their In-Game Voice option set to Japanese." FLINT assures players that this change will not impact their ability to chat in any of the previously supported languages.

Although this adjustment may concern some fans, FLINT is committed to "providing better services and experiences for our Masters of the Book."

Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers

FLINT is not alone in this decision. Other gacha games have also opted to remove English voice-over support. For example, Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius announced in May 2024 that they would remove English voice-overs for future content starting from Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. The developers decided to focus on Japanese voice-overs for new content while retaining English for existing chapters, prioritizing the Japanese language for the game's future.

In February 2024, Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer decided to remove all English voice-overs post the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" version due to financial constraints. The developers chose to redirect resources to improve gameplay, performance, and future content.

Similarly, Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone removed English voice-overs in December 2023 after evaluating player preferences and aiming to optimize the gaming experience. From Version 1.4 onward, some content automatically switches to Japanese voice-over.

These decisions across various gacha games suggest a focus on either aligning with the language preferences of the majority of players or reallocating resources for long-term sustainability. As gacha games often have extended lifecycles, the costs associated with English voice actors can be significant. By making these adjustments, developers aim to enhance the aspects of the game most valued by their player base, ensuring a more enjoyable and stable gaming experience.
