Helldivers 2's phenomenal success shows no signs of slowing down, as it has recently clinched two prestigious BAFTA Game Awards: Best Multiplayer and Best Music, out of five nominations. These accolades cap off a successful awards season for the Swedish developer Arrowhead, marking a standout year for the studio.

It's worth noting that Helldivers 2 has become the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever, achieving an impressive 12 million copies sold in a mere 12 weeks. This record-breaking performance is unlikely to be surpassed by any other first-party Sony-developed title. Since its explosive launch, the game has seen a series of notable events, including a significant policy reversal on PSN account requirements for Steam users, intense review-bomb campaigns, and a community frequently at odds with the game itself due to contentious nerfs and buffs.

Throughout these challenges, Arrowhead has had to navigate managing a much larger and more mainstream playerbase than ever before. Now, 14 months post-launch on PC and PlayStation 5, Arrowhead is taking time to reflect on the journey so far. Has the studio finally mastered the demanding world of live-service gaming? Following the exciting Killzone collaboration, could a partnership with Warhammer 40,000 be on the horizon?

IGN had the opportunity to discuss these questions and more with Alex Bolle, the production director of Helldivers 2, to delve deeper into Arrowhead's experiences and future plans.
