Nightreign Alters Elden Ring's Multiplayer Messaging
Elden Ring: Nightreign removes the in-game messaging feature, a departure from previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision, stating that the approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions are too short to allow players sufficient time to leave or read messages. The functionality, while historically a key element of FromSoftware's social interaction and enjoyment, was deemed unsuitable for Nightreign's shorter play sessions.
This change is noteworthy given the significant role messaging has played in past FromSoftware games. However, the team prioritized other aspects of the experience for Nightreign.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. Players can expect a fresh adventure with unique challenges and encounters, all while retaining the distinctive atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring universe.
