Rumor: Naughty Dog's Next Game Will Be Similar to a FromSoftware Title
It seems that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet may offer players a significantly greater degree of freedom than the studio's previous projects. According to various sources, the developers have drawn inspiration from Elden Ring, aiming to incorporate similar mechanics related to open-world exploration. This marks a notable shift from the more linear structures seen in their past games.
Journalist Ben Hanson has disclosed that the game will be set on a single expansive planet, where players will unravel the mysteries of a vanished civilization and explore a new religion, which will play a crucial role in the narrative. While it's uncertain how closely the project will align with the classic open-world concept, it's clear that the developers are steering away from the linear structure that characterized their earlier works.
The Heretic Prophet will be the studio's first project where players will embark on their journey alone, without companions or allies. Neil Druckmann has emphasized that the studio's goal is to evoke a sense of solitude in an uncharted universe while deeply exploring themes of faith and religion. The story unfolds in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, which has been isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is on this planet that bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives, driven by her contract.
Druckmann also noted that the game's development was influenced by titles such as Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This influence suggests a departure from traditional narrative guidance, shifting towards a storytelling approach where players must piece together the story's fragments on their own.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was officially announced at The Game Awards 2024, though a release date has yet to be revealed. This eagerly anticipated title promises to redefine the studio's approach to game design and narrative.
