Stephen King's Cujo Will Be Reimagined In New Netflix Adaptation
In the latest round of Stephen King adaptations, a new film version of Cujo is on the horizon. Netflix is set to produce the film, with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment attached as producer. While still in early development, with no director or cast announced, the project promises a fresh take on King's chilling tale.
King's 1981 novel was famously adapted into a 1983 cult classic directed by Lewis Teague. The film, starring Dee Wallace, centers on a mother's desperate fight for survival against a rabid St. Bernard, Cujo, as she and her son become trapped in a car with a dead engine. The relentless dog, transformed from a gentle pet to a vicious killer by a rabid bat bite, and the threat of heatstroke, create a terrifying struggle for survival.

Cujo joins a recent surge in Stephen King adaptations. Oz Perkins' adaptation of King's short story The Monkey was released in February. Further additions to this wave include The Running Man (starring Glen Powell), The Long Walk (directed by JT Mollner and also produced by Lee and Vertigo), and the IT prequel series, Welcome to Derry, on HBO. Additionally, a Prime Video series adaptation of Carrie, helmed by Mike Flanagan, is in the works.
It's a golden age for Stephen King fans, with more exciting projects on the way.
