New Nintendo Guidelines: Content Restrictions and Creator Banning

Nintendo's recently updated Content Guidelines have significantly tightened restrictions on content creators, potentially leading to bans for violations. This stricter enforcement, effective September 2nd, expands beyond previous limitations. While previously focusing on unlawful, infringing, or inappropriate content, Nintendo now proactively removes and restricts creators who breach guidelines, potentially resulting in permanent bans from sharing Nintendo-related content.

The revised "Game Content Guidelines for Online Video & Image Sharing Platforms" clarifies prohibited content, adding examples such as actions disrupting multiplayer gameplay and content deemed graphic, explicit, harmful, or offensive. These additions followed reported takedowns, possibly spurred by an incident involving a Splatoon 3 content creator.

A Splatoon 3 video by Liora Channel, featuring interviews with female players discussing dating experiences within the game, was removed by Nintendo. Liora Channel publicly committed to avoiding sexually suggestive Nintendo-related content in the future.

This stricter approach is arguably a response to the increased risk of predatory behavior in online gaming environments. The potential for harm, especially to younger players, necessitates proactive measures to prevent the association of Nintendo games with such activities. The influence of content creators makes it crucial for Nintendo to maintain a safe online environment for its player base. The updated guidelines highlight Nintendo's commitment to protecting its community from harmful content.
