Should You Kill Ygwulf or Let Him Live in Avowed? Answered

In the early stages of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy finds themselves tragically assassinated. After unraveling the mystery of their own murder, you'll uncover that the culprit is Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels who resist Aedyr's presence in the region. As the Emperor's Envoy, you become a prime target for this faction. You'll eventually track Ygwulf and his group to their underground hideout, requiring you to clear out numerous enemies and navigate challenging platforming sections. Be sure to come equipped with ample Health Potions and your best gear.

As you progress through the dungeon, you might come across documents that shed light on Ygwulf's true intentions and his remorse. Initially driven by misguided visions that he believed were divine commands to kill the Envoy, Ygwulf's perspective shifts as he comes to regret his actions. Even if you miss these documents, Ygwulf will express his remorse when you confront him at the quest's end, showing a willingness to face justice for his deeds.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Opting for Ygwulf to turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable choice. If you suggest this, Ygwulf will face the brutal wrath of Inquisitor Lödwyn, resulting in a painful death. However, this option yields fewer rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in combat. If you choose to spare Ygwulf, he will reward you with 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of his gratitude. While these resources are modest, they can still be beneficial. Unfortunately, sparing Ygwulf doesn't change his ultimate fate, as he is destined to meet his end later in the story.

Why You Should Consider Killing Ygwulf in Avowed

Given that Ygwulf's fate is sealed and will lead to his death regardless of your choice, opting to engage him in combat by choosing the "Attack" option is the most rewarding decision. This choice leads to a boss fight, providing valuable practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Moreover, defeating Ygwulf grants you the best loot among the available options. Upon his defeat, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique armor set, Blackwing. Not only does this armor look impressive, but it also offers significant stealth benefits, including a +30% damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% movement speed increase when crouching, enhancing your ability to sneak past enemies.

Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Although you encounter Ygwulf early in the game, his fate has a subtle impact on *Avowed*'s ending. After completing the final gameplay section (which we won't spoil here), you'll see artwork and narration that illustrate how your decisions have influenced the world of Eora across the Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to unify and pacify the Living Lands, Ygwulf's death remains a constant, further radicalizing the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring they continue as a violent opposition to your endeavors post-credits.
