CD Projekt Red, the developers behind The Witcher series, have issued a stern warning to fans regarding a scam involving beta test invites for the highly anticipated The Witcher 4. In a statement released on The Witcher's official Twitter (X) on April 16, the team addressed the fraudulent invitations circulating online. They advised the community to report any suspicious invites using the tools provided by their email clients or social media platforms. The developers emphasized that any future beta tests would be officially announced through The Witcher's official channels.

CD Projekt Red has been proactive in tackling the scam, stating, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down." They reassured fans that legitimate updates about beta tests would be communicated via The Witcher’s official social media and websites.

First Revealed in December 2024

The Witcher 4 was first unveiled during the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that introduced Ciri as the new protagonist, a significant shift from the series' traditional lead, Geralt. This change sparked widespread discussion among fans. In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed the community's reaction. He expressed understanding for the fans' attachment to Geralt but highlighted the team's commitment to showcasing Ciri's potential in future reveals.

Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."

Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga also shared his thoughts on the fan response, expressing gratitude for the support and acknowledging the passion behind the feedback. He remarked, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."

The developers have promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious entry in the series yet, featuring new regions and monsters.
