Insomniac Games Eyes More Game-to-Screen Adaptations

Insomniac Games, creators of the beloved Ratchet & Clank series, has expressed strong interest in adapting more of its games into films. Co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider shared this sentiment during a Wednesday interview with Variety, following the announcement of founder and long-time CEO Ted Price's retirement.
"Looking back at the Ratchet & Clank movie from a few years ago, we got an early start on that process," Schneider stated. "So, naturally, we're interested in pursuing more projects of this nature. We're particularly fond of Ratchet & Clank."
While the 2016 Ratchet & Clank film received mixed reviews, Insomniac Games, now under the Sony umbrella since 2019, feels confident about future game-to-screen adaptations, citing Sony's proven success with projects like the critically acclaimed The Last of Us series.
Sony's Expanding Video Game Adaptations Portfolio

Insomniac's enthusiasm for game-to-screen adaptations aligns perfectly with Sony's demonstrated success in this arena. Sony has already delivered successful adaptations, including the 2022 Uncharted film and the 2023 The Last of Us series.
Further bolstering their commitment, Sony announced additional projects at CES 2025. These include The Last of Us Season 2 (premiering on HBO in April 2025), an Until Dawn live-action film (also in April 2025), and a Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series slated for Crunchyroll in 2027. A Helldivers feature film and a Horizon Zero Dawn live-action film are also in development, though release dates remain unannounced.
Insomniac Founder and CEO Ted Price Retires After 30 Years

Alongside the co-Studio Heads' interview, Insomniac Founder and CEO Ted Price announced his retirement after a remarkable three decades at the helm. Insomniac Games, the studio behind iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel's Spider-Man, will now be led by three veteran Insomniac employees: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, who will serve as Co-Studio Heads.
Price explained his decision, stating, "I made this decision last year. After over 30 years leading Insomniac, it felt like the right time to step aside and allow others to guide our team forward." He expressed confidence in the new leadership, emphasizing their deep understanding of Insomniac's culture and processes.
