Bloodborne Patch Creator Targeted by DMCA

The creator of a popular Bloodborne 60fps patch has received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony. Lance McDonald, a well-known video game modder, announced on Twitter that Sony Interactive Entertainment requested the removal of links to his patch, which he subsequently complied with.

McDonald highlighted the irony, referencing a past meeting with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida where he jokingly mentioned creating the Bloodborne 60fps mod. Yoshida's reaction was reportedly laughter.

Bloodborne's lack of official next-gen support remains a significant point of contention among fans. While a 60fps patch, remaster, or sequel are highly desired, Sony has yet to act. This absence has fueled community efforts, including McDonald's mod and recent breakthroughs in PS4 emulation. The improved emulation, allowing for a near-remaster experience at 60fps on PC, may have prompted Sony's more assertive action. IGN has reached out to Sony for comment.

Earlier this month, Yoshida offered his perspective on Bloodborne's inactivity in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. He theorized that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game's creator, holds a strong personal attachment to Bloodborne and is reluctant to allow others to work on it, even for an update or remaster. Yoshida suggested that PlayStation respects Miyazaki's wishes.

Despite Miyazaki's frequent deflection of Bloodborne questions, citing FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership, he did acknowledge last February that a release on more modern hardware would benefit the game. The game remains untouched, almost a decade after its initial release, leaving fans yearning for a future update or sequel.
