Unveiled gifts and Sony's updated policy for PSN on PC

Sony's PC gaming policy sparks controversy among gamers. The company's requirement for PSN tethering, even in single-player titles, coupled with regional service limitations, restricts access to new releases.

Sony recently announced policy adjustments. While PSN tethering for PC remains, several concessions have been made. These games will not require mandatory PSN tethering:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarök
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

PSN tethering will still offer in-game bonuses:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" suit for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
  • God of War Ragnarök: The Black Bear armor set, the first "Lost Things" chest, and resource packs.
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points for unlocking features.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.

In November investor discussions, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged the backlash against PSN connection requirements. He emphasized security and order as the rationale, referencing service-based games. However, he failed to clarify how requiring a PSN account enhances security in single-player games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök.

Times have changed, and this policy continues to be debated.
