A PlayStation.blog post from February 12, 2025, by Sega of America Associate PR Manager Thalia Piedra, revealed thrilling new mechanics and features. While the trailer focuses on Sonic characters, the game promises "iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes," with a confirmed 23 at launch, and more to come.

Get ready to see familiar faces like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, alongside fan favorites from Sonic Riders (Jet, Wave, and Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok and Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, and E-123 Omega), the Chaotix (Vector, Charmy, and Espio), and even Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big! And let's not forget Dr. Eggman and his robotic creations, Egg Pawn and Metal Sonic.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers the most extensive vehicle customization yet! A February 17, 2025, tweet from the game's official account showcased deep customization options, including front and rear parts, wheels, body color, tire and cockpit customization, glow effects, and more.

Players can also equip their characters with 23 different gadgets to optimize their racing style. And making a triumphant return from Sonic Riders is Extreme Gear, allowing players to ride hoverboards for a unique boost-based racing experience. With all these returning and new features, Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka calls this "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
