Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Others Drop PSN Requirement on PC
Following the January 30, 2025 PC release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Sony will allow players to enjoy several PS5 PC ports without a PSN account. This applies to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming April 2025 release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered. However, it's important to note that titles like Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Until Dawn will still require a PSN account.
Rewards for PSN Account Holders
While PSN accounts are no longer required, Sony is incentivizing players who choose to link them. Benefits include trophy support, friend management, and exclusive in-game bonuses:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Early access to the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarök: The Armor of the Black Bear set (previously only accessible in New Game+) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: 50 bonus points to unlock extras, including Ellie's Jordan's Jacket skin.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.
Sony plans to expand these incentives, promising further benefits for PSN-connected players in the future.
Addressing Past Backlash
Sony faced significant criticism in 2024 for requiring PSN accounts for PC games like Helldivers 2, leading to its delisting in many regions due to PSN's limited availability. Similar backlash followed the God of War Ragnarök PC port. This latest announcement appears to be a direct response to player concerns about accessibility and data privacy. PSN's limited regional support (currently around 70+ countries) remains a point of contention for many players.
