Project Zomboid: How to Board Up Windows

Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location; you need robust defenses. One of the most fundamental ways to protect your base is by barricading windows. This guide outlines how to effectively board up your windows and enhance your safehouse's security.

How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid

To barricade a window, you'll need a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Gather these essential materials and then right-click on the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for increased protection.

Hammers and nails are commonly found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Planks are frequently located on construction sites or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture like shelves or chairs. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items.

Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry. The more planks you add, the more time it takes for the undead to breach your defenses. To remove planks, right-click on them and select "Remove," requiring a claw hammer or crowbar.

Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators, etc.) are ineffective as window barriers, as both players and zombies will pass through them.

For superior barricades, consider using metal bars or sheets. However, this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
