Pokémon Sleep Moves Development to Pokémon Works
Pokémon Sleep Development Transitioned to Pokémon Works
Select Button, the original developer of Pokémon Sleep, is transferring development responsibilities to Pokémon Works, a newly established Pokémon Company subsidiary. This change was recently announced within the Japanese version of the app.
From Select Button to Pokémon Works: A New Chapter for Pokémon Sleep
Launched in March 2023, Pokémon Works has now taken the reins of Pokémon Sleep's ongoing development and future updates. The in-app announcement (translated from Japanese) states that development and operation will gradually shift from Select Button to Pokémon Works.
The impact of this change on the global version of Pokémon Sleep is currently unclear, as the news isn't yet reflected in the global app's news section.
Pokémon Works' portfolio is relatively new, but its origins lie in a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Iruka Co., Ltd., as stated by Representative Director Takuya Iwasaki. The company's Tokyo office shares a location with ILCA, the studio behind Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and a contributor to Pokémon HOME, a project to which Pokémon Works also contributed.
Iwasaki's statement highlights Pokémon Works' ambition to "create an experience that makes Pokémon more real... so that everyone can enjoy meeting and adventuring with Pokémon." The specific application of this vision to Pokémon Sleep remains to be seen.
