Monopoly Movie: New Screenplay from D&D Writers
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative duo behind the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, have been tapped to write the screenplay for Lionsgate's upcoming Monopoly movie. This exciting announcement confirms Daley and Goldstein's involvement in bringing Hasbro's iconic board game to the big screen. The film will be produced by Margot Robbie through her production company, LuckyChap.
Daley and Goldstein's recent projects include not only Honor Among Thieves, but also their original film, Mayday. Their impressive resume also boasts writing credits on The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility and experience in crafting engaging narratives within established franchises.
The journey to a Monopoly movie has been a long one, with various attempts dating back to 2007, when Ridley Scott expressed interest in directing. Subsequent attempts, including scripts by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (2011) and Andrew Niccol (2015), as well as involvement from Kevin Hart and Tim Story (2019), ultimately failed to materialize.
However, Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro has seemingly revitalized the project, paving the way for this new iteration. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm, hopes are high that this version of the Monopoly film will finally make it past "Go" and into production.
