Mai Shiranui has caused a huge surge of interest in Street Fighter 6
Street Fighter 6, Capcom's hit fighting game, continues to attract players with its latest addition: Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury series. Having sold 4.4 million copies by December 31st, 2024, Street Fighter 6 has seen a surge in popularity thanks to this new fighter. While some fans felt the game lacked frequent content updates, Mai Shiranui's arrival as the third Season 2 character has significantly boosted player numbers. Steam's peak online player count exceeded 63,000 on her release day—a record high since May 2024, surpassing the previous peak of 24-27,000.
Available to Battle Pass holders, Mai Shiranui offers more than just combat prowess. In World Tour mode, players can cultivate relationships with her, learning her signature moves before testing them out in Battle Hub. A second costume, inspired by her appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, has also been added.
Adding to the excitement, Battle Hub temporarily features Professor Woshige, a renowned fighting game developer, as a guest character until March 10th. The update also introduces new Master League ranks and rewards. Capcom showcased Mai Shiranui's impressive techniques in a dedicated trailer.
