Keanu Reeves Recently Pitched DC Studios on Constantine 2 — and It’s Now Ready for a Script
Keanu Reeves has shared an exciting update on the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic film, Constantine. As the iconic John Constantine, an occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, Reeves captivated audiences in the 2005 live-action adaptation. Over the past two decades, fans have eagerly awaited a sequel, and their hopes have been bolstered by Reeves' recent comments.
In an interview with Inverse, Reeves revealed that after years of trying to bring Constantine 2 to life, he and his team have successfully pitched a new story to DC Studios. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’" Reeves stated. This green light from DC Studios marks a significant step forward, as they are now moving towards developing a script for the sequel.
Despite this promising development, it's important to note that Constantine 2 is not yet a confirmed project in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU). DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have not mentioned it as part of their future plans. Therefore, while the project is on the edge, the potential for it to move forward remains.
Reeves also teased that if Constantine 2 does come to fruition, it will be set in the same world as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, humorously adding, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who, in a September interview with ComicBook, revealed that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. However, di Bonaventura admitted he was "too scared to read it" due to his high hopes for the project. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
