Jon Bernthal's Punisher Set for Marvel Special Post-Daredevil: Born Again
Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his role as the Punisher in an exciting new Marvel special following the first season of Daredevil: Born Again. This standalone project, styled similarly to the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday specials, promises to be a thrilling addition to the Marvel universe. Entertainment Weekly revealed that Bernthal will not only star but also co-write the script alongside We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green. Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, described the special as "a shotgun blast of a story" that captures the intense emotion and pathos characteristic of a Frank Castle narrative, expressing his excitement for the project.

The announcement of the Punisher special comes amidst Marvel Television's broader plans to bring back the Defenders on Disney+. This team of street-level superheroes, comprising Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, made their mark on Netflix before transitioning to Disney+ and becoming part of the MCU canon.
Brad Winderbaum shared his enthusiasm about the opportunity to expand this universe, acknowledging the limitations of television production compared to the boundless possibilities of comic books. He emphasized the creative excitement and ongoing exploration of these storylines despite the constraints of working with actors, time, and the large-scale production required for a cinematic universe.
Daredevil: Born Again, set to premiere on March 4, picks up where the Netflix series left off, featuring familiar faces like Jon Bernthal's Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). The series introduces a new threat in the form of the artistically inclined serial killer known as Muse, promising a compelling continuation of the Daredevil saga.
