League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes

Hextech Chests Make a Comeback

In a significant move, League of Legends (LoL) is reintroducing Hextech Chests following extensive community feedback. Riot Games shared a comprehensive developer update on their website on February 27, 2025, and complemented it with a detailed video on their YouTube channel.

Riot Games acknowledged that recent changes had not resonated well with the player base, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."

The reintroduction of Hextech Chests was a direct response to fan outcry. LoL explained, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."

Starting with patch 25.05, players will once again be able to earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, while the remaining two can be obtained via the Honor system.

Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and Additional Fan Feedback Adjustments

Riot Games also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay extends to the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act this year as initially planned.

In response to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the scarcity of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the overabundance of champions for each seasonal theme.

To enhance player accessibility, LoL is also reducing the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05, following discussions about blue essence and champion shards.

Additionally, Riot Games is reversing their decision to run Clash less frequently. They've reinstated Clash's monthly schedule, with March's event featuring ARURF and a regular Summoner's Rift Clash planned for April.

Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return

Responding to popular demand, LoL is bringing back the fan-favorite Your Shop and Blue Essence Emporium. Your Shop is set to return in patch 25.06, followed by the Emporium in patch 25.07.

Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better.
