GTA 5, RDR2 Hit Record Sales Milestone

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) continues to defy expectations, selling an impressive 5 million copies in the last three months, a remarkable feat for a game released over a decade ago (September 2013). Its enduring popularity solidifies its place among history's best-selling video games.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2), released in October 2018, also shows strong sales momentum, adding 3 million copies to its already substantial 70 million total sales in the recent quarter.

The ongoing success of GTA Online, GTA V's consistently updated multiplayer component, plays a crucial role in this sustained performance. Take-Two Interactive's commitment to regular content updates, such as the December 2024 Agents of Sabotage, keeps players engaged and returning.

Looking ahead, Take-Two has confirmed a fall 2025 release for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. Further bolstering their upcoming releases, Mafia: The Old Country is slated for a summer release, and Borderlands 4 is expected later in the year.

While concerns regarding potential delays for Grand Theft Auto VI are understandable, Take-Two's recent financial reports reaffirm its autumn 2025 release window. Similarly, Borderlands 4's release this year has been confirmed, though specific dates remain unannounced.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged Rockstar Games' meticulous development approach, suggesting that additional time may be needed, a pattern observed with previous titles like GTA V and RDR2. This cautious approach, however, doesn't negate the fall release target for GTA VI.
