Silksong's Sweet Treat Hint Sparks Switch 2 Rumors

Six years after Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania hit Hollow Knight, fans are buzzing with speculation. Numerous appearances and disappearances at gaming events, and even a seeming confirmation from Microsoft of a pre-June 2023 release, have left fans yearning for news. The absence of Silksong at The Game Awards only fueled the anticipation. Could the recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 Direct finally bring the reveal?

The current excitement stems from a seemingly innocuous detail: a chocolate cake. Sharp-eyed fans on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that Team Cherry co-director William Pellen changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a chocolate cake image on January 15th, accompanied by the tweet: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

With rumors of a January 16th Nintendo Switch 2 announcement circulating, the timing was significant. The Switch 2 was indeed unveiled that day, but Pellen's cryptic message sparked a frenzy of speculation.

The cake picture itself led fans down a rabbit hole. A reverse image search revealed the source: a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe from Bon Appétit, published on April 2nd, 2024. The significance? Nintendo confirmed a Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 for Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025. This fueled the theory that Pellen initiated an alternate reality game (ARG) with the cake tweet.

The mystery deepens. Fans are dissecting Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr, and his new name, "little bomey." One compelling theory suggests the handle's 15-character length (matching Twitter's limit) hints at a connection to a Silksong NPC, the Druid of the Moss Temple. "Little bomey" is also under scrutiny, possibly referencing a Southern Australian wine, aligning with Team Cherry's location.

Recall that Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially announced for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. However, six years later, the question remains: has Nintendo secured Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title, or perhaps a timed exclusive? Or is this all an elaborate case of overzealous fans grasping at straws?

Only time will tell. We have several months until the April 2nd Direct; until then, the speculation continues.
