Game Update: FFXIV Alters Divisive Feature
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail streamlines stealth mechanics with new visual aids. The upcoming expansion will introduce helpful indicators to improve the stealth sections of specific story quests, addressing previous player concerns. This mechanic, initially introduced in Endwalker, proved challenging for some players.
Dawntrail also boasts the game's first major graphical overhaul, including a second dye channel for weapons and armor (with more to be added later). Furthermore, players using Fantasia potions will now have an hour to adjust their character's appearance without needing another potion. The pre-release patch (7.0) weighed in at a hefty 57.3 GB on PC, prompting Square Enix to urge players to download it early.
The improved stealth system, detailed in the Patch 7.0 notes, will feature clear visual cues. A yellow striped indicator will alert players when an NPC is about to turn, while a detection radius indicator will show the safe distance from the target. This is a significant improvement, particularly benefiting players with visual impairments, as highlighted by Twitter user Sara Winters.
While the extent of stealth mechanics' use in Dawntrail's main story remains unknown, these changes are a welcome response to player feedback. These enhancements, along with other adjustments, aim to make the game's narrative more accessible and enjoyable for all players. The hope is that Square Enix will continue prioritizing accessibility improvements in future updates.
