Dynasty Warriors: Origins - Guide to Switching Characters

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you'll primarily guide the Wanderer on a journey to restore peace to the land. This epic quest is filled with pivotal choices in the main storyline, and regardless of your decisions, you'll find yourself accompanied by powerful allies on the battlefield.

These companions not only fight alongside you but can also be controlled directly at certain moments. Given their formidable strength, switching to a companion often proves more effective than continuing as the Wanderer, even with his upgrades. Here's how you can seamlessly switch between characters.

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching to your companion is only possible during battles where one is present. Before the fight, during the war council, you'll see an option to select your companion. You can opt to go into battle alone, but remember, you won't be able to switch to any companions once the battle starts.

Once engaged in combat, keep an eye on the bottom right of your screen where you'll see your companion's health bar, positioned just above your own. Below this, you'll notice a blue bar similar to your Musou bar. This bar fills up as you engage in combat, with actions such as:

  • Parrying attacks
  • Perfect dodging
  • Assaulting Officers
  • Using Weapon Arts

Every combat action contributes to filling this bar, albeit at a slower pace.

When the blue bar is fully charged, a "Change Character" button will appear next to it. Hold this button for about a second to switch characters. On Xbox, this is the View Button; on PC, it's the C key; and on PlayStation, it's the Touchpad.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The best time to switch to a companion is during intense combat scenarios. These characters are exceptionally powerful, and you'll control them for roughly a minute. The blue bar, which allowed you to switch, will now deplete, indicating your remaining control time. Upon switching, your new character will come equipped with full Bravery and a suite of combat arts, each incredibly potent.

Switching into a new character triggers a dramatic entrance with a significant attack, so aim at an enemy to maximize impact. Your companion will also have their own Musou and health bars, both fully charged, enabling you to unleash their unique special attack to wreak havoc on your foes.
