Marvel Rivals Developer Is 'Open' to Potential Future Release on Nintendo Switch 2
The widely popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals is currently enjoying tremendous success on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has firmly stated that it won't be coming to the current Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans eager to join the action. But there's hope on the horizon with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to discuss this topic with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. Exciting news for Switch enthusiasts: a release on the Nintendo Switch 2 seems to be a genuine possibility.
Wu explained, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch was that the first generation of that device couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, and while specifics on its capabilities are still under wraps, it's shaping up to be a more powerful and larger version of the beloved Nintendo Switch. A notable feature appears to be a mouse-like controller functionality, which could potentially enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, offering a more PC-like feel, though the exact implementation remains to be seen.As for the release timeline, the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have a confirmed date yet, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, which may shed more light on this. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is already available on other platforms, and it has received high praise from us, scoring an 8/10 in our review. We stated that it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the game on February 21.
