What is a Stronghold in Minecraft
Image: youtube.com
A stronghold is an underground catacomb, preserved since ancient times. Within its corridors, you'll find valuable items, prison cells, libraries, and other intriguing locations. The most significant feature of a stronghold is the portal leading to The End, where the game's final boss, the Ender Dragon, resides.

To activate this portal, you'll need the Eye of Ender. We'll delve deeper into this item in the next section. Keep in mind that finding a stronghold on your own is nearly impossible, even with extensive digging. The game provides a specific search mechanic, but there are also methods considered less fair.
How to Find a Stronghold in Minecraft
Eye of Ender

This is the legitimate and developer-intended method to locate a stronghold. Crafting the Eye of Ender requires:
- Blaze Powder
- Ender Pearl
Blaze Powder comes from crafting blaze rods, dropped by Blazes, while Ender Pearls are mainly obtained by defeating Endermen. You can also trade emeralds with a priest villager for Ender Pearls or find them in stronghold chests.

Once crafted, hold the Eye of Ender and use it to see it fly towards the stronghold's direction for 3 seconds. Be cautious, as it's a consumable item that might either return to you or vanish into the sky. Use it wisely!

You'll need multiple Eyes of Ender to activate the portal, so gather ample resources before setting out. In survival mode, around 30 Eyes are recommended to ensure you can challenge the dragon.
The Locate Command
There's also a less fair method using cheat commands. Enable cheats in your game settings and enter the command:
/locate structure stronghold
for Minecraft versions 1.20 and above.

After getting the coordinates, use:
/tp
to teleport to the location. Remember, these coordinates are approximate, so some additional exploration might be needed to find the stronghold.
Stronghold Rooms
Library

The library, made of stone blocks, bricks, and bookshelves, is a spacious room with high ceilings and cobwebs, adding a mysterious ambiance. Hidden deep within the stronghold, you might find multiple libraries during your exploration. Chests near the bookshelves contain enchanted books and other useful resources, potentially including rare items for future adventures.
Prison

The prison resembles a confusing maze with narrow corridors, bars, and dim lighting, creating a grim atmosphere. It's filled with dangers from skeletons, zombies, and creepers lurking in the shadows. Be cautious as you navigate, as the real threat comes from these mobs, not the prisoners.
Fountain

The fountain room is unmistakable, with its magical ambiance. The central fountain and light filtering through the stone cracks create a mystical atmosphere, hinting at past rituals or a place of solitude for the stronghold's inhabitants.
Secret Rooms

Hidden behind the stronghold's walls, secret rooms contain chests with valuable resources, enchanted books, and rare equipment. Be wary of traps like hidden arrow mechanisms, and stay vigilant as any misstep could be perilous.
Altar

The altar room, initially appearing more like a grim prison than a sacred space, features stone bricks marked by time. With torches around, it's only after adjusting to the dim light that you realize it's an ancient altar, left by the stronghold's former inhabitants.
Stronghold Mobs

The stronghold is guarded by relatively weak enemies like skeletons, creepers, and numerous Silverfish, which can be managed even with basic iron armor. However, be prepared for encounters with these and other powerful foes within its walls.
Rewards
Rewards in strongholds are random, so you might get lucky or not. Here are some valuable items you might find:
- Enchanted book
- Iron chestplate
- Iron sword
- Iron horse armor
- Gold horse armor
- Diamond horse armor
Portal to the Ender Dragon
Every game has its beginning and end, and in Minecraft, the stronghold marks the path to the final boss—the Ender Dragon. After collecting gear and exploring the world in survival mode, the stronghold's portal awaits.

Minecraft strongholds are not just a passage to the game's end but a place for exploration and combat. It would be a shame to search so diligently and not fully explore all the stronghold has to offer, wouldn't you agree?
