BG3's Patch 7 Brings In Over A Million Mods Shortly After Rollout
Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!
Larian Studios' highly anticipated Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 has unleashed a tidal wave of community-created mods. The response has been nothing short of phenomenal.
Larian CEO Swen Vincke proudly announced on Twitter (now X) that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of Patch 7's September 5th release. This impressive figure was quickly eclipsed, with mod.io founder Scott Reismanis reporting that installs surpassed three million and are still climbing. "Modding is pretty big," Vincke confirmed.
This explosion of modding activity is fueled by Patch 7's significant additions: new evil endings, enhanced split-screen, and Larian's own integrated Mod Manager. This in-game tool simplifies mod browsing, installation, and management.
The standalone modding toolkit, available on Steam, empowers creators to craft their own narratives using Larian's Osiris scripting language. Modders can also incorporate custom scripts, debug their creations, and publish directly from the toolkit.
Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon
PC Gamer highlighted a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" (by modder Siegfre on Nexus) which unlocks a level editor and reactivates features previously unavailable in Larian's official editor. While Larian initially limited access to its development tools, Vincke explained their commitment to cross-platform modding, acknowledging the considerable challenge of ensuring compatibility across PC and consoles. The plan is to prioritize PC support initially, followed by console implementation after addressing any potential issues.
Beyond modding, Patch 7 delivers a refined gaming experience with UI improvements, new animations, expanded dialogue, bug fixes, and performance enhancements. With future updates planned, Larian's continued support for modding, especially cross-platform capabilities, is highly anticipated.
