How to Beat and Capture Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds
Ready to conquer the Chatacabra, the long-tongued menace of *Monster Hunter Wilds*? This early-game foe might seem intimidating, but mastering its fight is key to a successful hunt. This guide will walk you through both killing and capturing this amphibian adversary.
How to Beat Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb
The Chatacabra, a large frog-like monster, primarily uses close-range attacks centered around its long tongue. It may also rush you from a distance. While any weapon can be effective, its smaller size might make weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade slightly less efficient than others due to their multi-hit attacks being less effective against smaller targets.
Most attacks involve its tongue, making the front a dangerous zone. Besides its tongue lash, it slams its front limbs into the ground after a telltale rear. The only significant threat when not directly in front is a rear-back sweep with its tongue.
The optimal strategy is to stay to its sides, dodging or blocking its ground slam. Utilizing its elemental weaknesses will significantly speed up the fight.
How to Capture Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds follows a consistent pattern, and the flightless Chatacabra simplifies things. Equip a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap, and bring at least two Tranquilizer Bombs. However, packing an extra trap and up to eight Tranquilizer Bombs is wise to account for unexpected events.
Battle the Chatacabra until its mini-map icon displays a skull, indicating its final retreat. Follow it, set your trap, and lure it inside. Once trapped, use two Tranquilizer Bombs to subdue it—capture complete!
