How to Play Backgammon: Classic Backgammon is a two-player strategy game played on a board with 24 triangular points. Each player starts with 15 checkers (black or white) on opposite sides. Players take turns rolling dice—hence the game's association with dice games—and move their pieces according to the numbers rolled. For example, a roll of 2 and 5 allows you to move one piece 2 points and another 5, or one piece a total of 7 points. Once all a player's pieces are in their "home" area, they can begin bearing off (removing) pieces from the board. The first player to bear off all their pieces wins.

More Backgammon Tips: Rolling doubles allows you to move four times the value of the number rolled (e.g., two 4s allow a total move of 16 points, but each piece must move 4 points at a time). You cannot land on a point occupied by two or more of your opponent's pieces. Landing on a point with only one opponent's piece sends that piece to the bar (middle partition).
