Control your device effortlessly with switches or the front camera for a seamless user experience. Whether you're using physical switches or facial gestures, Switch Access on Android devices offers a versatile way to interact with your phone or tablet, especially if direct touchscreen interaction is challenging.
To get started:
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Navigate to Accessibility > Switch Access.
Set up a switch:
Switch Access scans your screen, highlighting items until you select one. You can choose from various types of switches:
Physical switches:
- USB or Bluetooth switches, such as buttons or keyboards.
- On-device switches, like volume buttons.
Camera switches:
- Facial gestures like opening your mouth, smiling, or raising your eyebrows.
- Eye movements, such as looking left, right, or up.
Scan your device:
Once your switch is set up, you can interact with screen elements in several ways:
- Linear scanning: Move through items one at a time.
- Row-column scanning: Scan one row at a time, then select items within that row.
- Point scanning: Use moving lines to pinpoint a specific location, then press "Select".
- Group selection: Assign switches to color groups. Items on the screen are color-coded, and you press the switch corresponding to the color around your desired item, narrowing down until you make your selection.
Use the menus:
Upon selecting an element, a menu appears with various interaction options like select, scroll, copy, paste, and more. Additionally, a top-screen menu helps you navigate your device, allowing actions like opening notifications, returning to the home screen, and adjusting volume.
Navigate with Camera Switches:
Utilize your phone's front camera for navigation with facial gestures. Browse or select apps easily and customize the sensitivity and duration of each gesture to suit your needs.
Record shortcuts:
Enhance efficiency by recording touch gestures such as pinching, zooming, scrolling, swiping, or double tapping. Assign these gestures to a switch or access them from a menu for quick, complex actions, like turning multiple pages in an ebook with a single switch press.
Permissions Notice:
