Grinding Gear Games has apologized for delaying Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update, prioritizing Path of Exile 2's launch and subsequent issues. The update, initially slated for late October 2024 and then mid-February 2025, remains postponed.

The developer diverted the Path of Exile 1 team to address Path of Exile 2's endgame challenges before its December 2024 release. However, unforeseen issues with Path of Exile 2, including crashes and balance problems, necessitated continued focus on the sequel. Game director Jonathan Rogers admitted misjudging the resources needed, stating it was impossible to simultaneously manage both games effectively.

Path of Exile 2's December 6, 2024 launch across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S was ultimately successful, becoming one of Steam's most-played games. However, the delay of Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update has left fans disappointed. While a plan for the update exists, no release date has been announced. Rogers expressed regret for the handling of the situation and acknowledged the studio's need to improve its simultaneous game development strategy.
