WoW Patch 11.1: Two New Race Types Added
Summary
- World of Warcraft's Patch 11.1 introduces Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races using Goblin jetpacks.
- The new zone, Undermine, will not permit flying; instead, players will use customizable cars and jetpacks.
- Skyrocket races will challenge players with ring collection, speed, and increased difficulty.
World of Warcraft is set to thrill players with two new racing experiences in Patch 11.1: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races featuring flying Goblin jetpacks. These innovative races are set to replace Skyriding in Undermine, the expansive subterranean metropolis and Goblin capital city introduced in the first major content update for World of Warcraft: The War Within.
In Patch 11.1, aptly named Undermined, players will explore Undermine, a vast zone where traditional flying is prohibited. Instead, adventurers will zoom through the city using D.R.I.V.E., a dynamic, customizable, car-like mount that promises speeds surpassing those of Skyriding. World of Warcraft announced these thrilling Breakneck races, designed to fully leverage the D.R.I.V.E. system.
Adding to the excitement, Skyrocket races introduce a new challenge where players don Goblin jetpacks to soar through the skies. Unlike traditional flying or Skyriding, these races feature a unique movement style that balances both systems. Players cannot halt mid-air as with Steady flight, yet they maintain momentum and altitude without the drawbacks of Skyriding. According to footage from WoW content creator MrGM from the Public Test Realm, collecting rings boosts speed, but higher speeds reduce turning responsiveness, adding a layer of difficulty to Skyrocket races.
New Skyrocket Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1
Due to the absence of Skyriding in Undermine, Skyriding races are also unavailable. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races offer achievements for achieving Bronze, Silver, and Gold times across all races. Additionally, reverse versions of all four Skyrocket and D.R.I.V.E. Breakneck races are available, though they lack Advanced or Challenge courses found in some Skyriding races.
All Skyrocket and Breakneck Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1
Skyrocket | Breakneck |
---|---|
Skyrocketing Sprint | Breakneck Bolt |
The Heaps Leap | Junkyard Jaunt |
Scrapshop Shot | Casino Cruise |
Rags to Riches Run | Sandy Scuttle |
Initial reactions to the Skyrocket races have been varied. While some fans eagerly anticipate trying them out, others have criticized the flight mechanics as stiff and less responsive than Skyriding. Fortunately, with Patch 11.1 still in development, there's ample time for refinement before the update's anticipated release in February.
