The Witcher 4: everything we know so far
The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.
Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, steps into the spotlight as the older generation's adventures seemingly conclude. The teaser depicts Ciri intervening in a village gripped by a superstitious ritual, showcasing her heroic nature and hinting at a complex narrative. The situation, however, proves far more intricate than initially perceived.
A release date remains elusive. Considering the development timelines of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, and the early stage of Witcher 4's production, a 3-4 year wait is a reasonable expectation.
Platform specifics are yet to be announced, but given the anticipated timeframe, a current-gen-only release (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC) seems likely. While a Switch port was possible for Witcher 3, it's less probable for this iteration, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.
While gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer suggests a continuation of the series' core mechanics, including potions, combat phrases, and magical Signs. A new addition, Ciri's chain, appears to play a significant role in both combat and magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle has confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, though not as the central focus. His voiceover in the trailer suggests a possible mentor role for the veteran Witcher.
