Excitement is building as DC's latest cinematic venture, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, has officially begun filming. To mark this milestone, DC Studios' head, James Gunn, took to Bluesky to share the first glimpse of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, albeit in a rather unique way. The photo features Alcock seated in her actor's chair, offering fans a symbolic first look at her portrayal of Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl.

In his announcement, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms the involvement of Gillespie, acclaimed for his work on Cruella and I, Tonya, as the director of this much-anticipated film.

While details about the plot remain under wraps, it's known that the movie draws significant inspiration from the graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The story follows an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. This compelling narrative earned the comic a nomination for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards, making it a must-read for fans.

The cast for the film includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, who has been recast in the DC universe as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in the newly rebooted DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman slated for release this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II, which may or may not connect with Gunn's cinematic universe, and a rumored Clayface movie directed by Mike Flanagan.
