In *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, the main story quest "Necessary Evil" presents players with some of the game's most challenging moral dilemmas, particularly in deciding whether to side with Semine or Hashek. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you navigate through the quest and understand the implications of your choices.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough

After completing the "Back in the Saddle" quest, you can initiate "Necessary Evil" in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*. Von Bergow will task you and Hans with gathering intelligence from Nebakov Fortress and interrogating a prisoner. The interrogation's outcome is pivotal, as it will influence whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov Fortress. This walkthrough focuses on the path leading to Semine, where the most critical decisions arise.

Prisoner Interrogation Answers

Prisoner Interrogation Scene

During the interrogation, you'll need to pass several Speech checks. You can either use your persuasive skills or resort to torture to extract information. Here are the Speech check options and their requirements:

  • “We’ll put in a good word for you.” (20 Impression)
  • “Istvan and I are old acquaintances.” (20 Impression)
  • “Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you.” (17 Intimidation)

Once you've interrogated the prisoner, you'll uncover the identity of the bandit leader and Semine's complicity. When reporting back to von Bergow, you have two choices: reveal Young Semine's alliance with the bandits, leading to an attack on Semine, or claim no one assisted the bandits, which shifts the focus to Nebakov.

Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?

Opting to attack Semine involves riding with the party and facing tougher moral decisions concerning Hashek. Choosing to attack Nebakov, however, results in von Bergow dealing with the bandits directly, concluding the quest immediately. While attacking Nebakov might seem like a way to avoid bloodshed at Semine, letting Semine off the hook could be ethically questionable given his role in the deaths of many innocents. Personally, I chose to attack Semine, as it felt like the right course of action despite my familiarity with the townsfolk.

Remember, if you decide to attack Semine, you must ride with the party. Falling behind could lead to the town's slaughter. Accompanying them provides a chance to aid Semine.

Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?

Semine and Hashek Confrontation

Before heading out, a conversation with Hashek reveals his desire for revenge against Semine and his inclination towards violence. Upon arriving at Semine, you'll face a crucial decision: side with Semine or Hashek. Choose “Hashek is right” to align with Hashek, or “Olda deserves a trial” to support Semine.

I recommend siding with Semine. Although he erred in aiding the bandits, Hashek's approach would result in further loss of innocent lives. Playing Henry as a morally upright character made it fitting to intervene against Hashek's destructive plans. After thwarting Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee, which will advance the quest and lead to your next objective: reporting back to von Bergow.

If you side with Hashek, the town's inhabitants will be massacred. You'll also have the opportunity to find Olda in the tower and decide his fate—either sparing him or handing him over to Hashek.

Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?

The final part of the quest involves reporting to von Bergow with Hans. Here, you can choose to let Hans handle the conversation or speak up yourself about the events at Semine. I suggest remaining silent and allowing Hans to take the lead. Hans is more adept at diplomacy, which keeps both of you in von Bergow's favor and shifts his attention to planning an attack on Nebakov.
