"Season 2 of The Last of Us to Include Brutal Content Omitted from Game"
The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO is set to include previously cut content from The Last of Us Part 2 video game, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. In a discussion with Entertainment Weekly, Druckmann revealed that the show will bring back some "pretty brutal" scenes, including elements from the Lost Levels that were partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster of the game. These levels encompass three early versions of scrapped content: Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers. The first two levels feature more serene settings, with Ellie attending a party in Jackson Party and tracking a wounded boar in The Hunt. In contrast, the Seattle Sewers level is packed with intense horror, featuring Ellie being stalked by monsters in the tunnels beneath Seattle.

The inclusion of this cut content is expected to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Druckmann expressed excitement about the brutal scenes and teased the introduction of a "pretty prominent" character, only mentioned in the game, similar to the approach taken with Frank in Season 1.
Season 2 will introduce several new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. Additionally, Catherine O'Hara has joined the cast in a yet-to-be-revealed role, adding to the anticipation.
Fans won't have to wait long for answers, as the premiere of Season 2's first episode is scheduled for April. However, some mysteries may persist longer due to HBO's plan to extend the coverage of The Last of Us Part 2 beyond a single season. Unlike Season 1, which adapted the entire first game, Season 2 will only cover part of the second game's story. Showrunner Craig Mazin has noted that Part 2 has a more extensive narrative, and while Season 3 isn't confirmed yet, Season 2 has been structured to end at a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
