Path of Exile 2's Endgame Rituals: A Comprehensive Guide

Path of Exile 2 introduces several endgame events, including Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. This guide focuses on Rituals, a revamped mechanic from previous PoE Leagues.

Identifying and Initiating Ritual Events

Atlas Map Node with Ritual Icon

On the Atlas, Ritual Altar map nodes are marked with a distinctive red pentagram icon. A Ritual Precursor Tablet can guarantee a Ritual encounter when slotted into a completed Lost Tower.

Once in a Ritual map, several Altars will appear. Each map features a shared random modifier impacting enemy types and mechanics (e.g., massive rat swarms, life-draining blood pools).

To activate a Ritual, interact with an Altar after reviewing its modifiers. A circular zone will appear; remain within it to defeat all enemies. Leaving the zone prematurely ends the event with no rewards. A map is considered complete only after all Rituals are successfully completed.

The Pinnacle Boss: The King in the Mists

'An Audience With The King,' a unique currency item, unlocks a fight with The King in the Mists, the Ritual Pinnacle Boss. Obtain this item via Ritual Favors. Use it at your Realmgate to access the boss fight.

The King in the Mists' mechanics are similar to his campaign counterpart. For practice, revisit Act 1 Cruel and create a Freythorn instance. Defeating him rewards two Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at unique items, powerful currencies, and Omen items.

The Ritual Passive Skill Tree

Ritual Passive Skill Tree

The Atlas Passive Skill Tree includes a Ritual section, enhancing rewards by reducing Tribute requirements, improving rewards, and increasing unique currency drop rates. Access it via the Atlas Map's top-left button, located in the bottom right of the main tree.

The Ritual tree features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing King in the Mists difficulty. Defeating the King in the Mists grants two skill points, necessitating increased difficulty for each new Notable node.

Prioritize these Notable nodes: 'From The Mists,' 'Spreading Darkness,' and 'Ominous Portents' for increased rewards with minimal drawbacks. Then, consider 'Tempting Offers' and 'He Approaches' for improved Omen and 'An Audience With The King' chances.

Notable Ritual Passive Skills:

Promised Devotion Ritual Altar skills deal 25% increased Damage. Deferring Favours requires 50% less Tribute, appearing 50% sooner N/A

Ritual Rewards: Tribute and Favors

Completed Rituals grant Tribute, a temporary currency exchanged for randomized Favors. More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock more Favors, ranging from Magic items and low-level Currencies to Rare gear and high-tier Currencies. 'An Audience With The King' is exclusively obtained through Favors.

Omen Currencies

Omen items significantly enhance other Currency items. They are consumed upon use. Examples include Omens of Annulment and Alchemy. Omens are highly valuable and often traded for other high-value currencies.

Beyond Tribute and Favors, Ritual enemies drop high-tier Currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.). The King in the Mists has a chance to drop Uniques from a Ritual-exclusive pool.
