Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades Announced for Games Like Breath of the Wild, Metroid Prime 4
In today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo revealed that nearly the entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, some select titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features. These lucky games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game comes with its own set of improvements. The showcase began with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV", enhancing the game with mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble", and new gameplay utilizing the camera accessory.
Following that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were highlighted, receiving upgrades in resolution and frame rate, as well as HDR support. Additionally, these titles will benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to assist players in finding Shrines and Koroks, and allows sharing of creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR code with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to feature a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, named Star-Crossed World, along with improved graphics and frame rates.
Two upcoming titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, are also slated for upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse control, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see enhancements in resolution and frame rates.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Additionally, upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby will be offered for those who already own the original Switch versions.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo also announced third-party games getting Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7 (with mouse support) and Street Fighter 6 (featuring Switch 2-exclusive game modes).
The concept of "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games was hinted at last week when a webpage mentioned these editions in a footnote related to the newly announced Virtual Game Card system. This note clarified that such games cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
