NieR: Automata's world, while primarily focused on android-machine conflict, offers peaceful diversions. Fishing, a completely optional activity, provides a relaxing alternative to combat. While it won't boost your character level, it's an efficient way to acquire rare items and earn quick cash without expending resources on battles. This guide explains how to fish and what rewards await.

How To Fish In NieR: Automata

Fishing is possible in almost any body of water, even shallow areas like those near the Resistance Camp. Simply stand still in the water; a fishing prompt will appear above your character. Holding the designated button initiates the fishing process. The entire process involves a single button: casting and reeling.

  • PlayStation: O button
  • Xbox: B button
  • PC: Enter key

After casting, wait for the pod to be fully submerged with an audible "plop." Quickly press the reel-in button; a delayed response results in a lost catch. You can cast repeatedly without limitation. A helpful plug-in chip displays a fishing icon in the top-right corner when fishing is possible.

Rewards For Fishing In NieR: Automata

Most fish and junk items obtained through fishing are valuable commodities. Selling these finds provides a safe and rapid method for early-game wealth accumulation, particularly useful for increasing plug-in chip capacity. Fishing in sewers offers a chance to obtain the Iron Pipe, a potentially powerful weapon depending on your luck.
