Slaying monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is exhilarating, but to harvest every valuable monster part for crafting superior armor, mastering the art of trapping is essential. This requires specific materials—Trap Tools. Let's explore how to obtain them.

Monster Hunter Wilds doesn't explicitly guide you on trapping or acquiring Trap Tools, but seasoned series players will find the process familiar.

Your primary source for Trap Tools is the Provisions Stockpiler NPC at your Base Camp. Simply speak with him, browse his inventory, and purchase the Trap Tools for 200 Zenny each. It's highly recommended to buy several, especially if you're focused on farming specific monsters or aiming to capture a diverse range of creatures.

Currently, purchasing from the Base Camp is the only method to acquire Trap Tools; these items are not found in the wild like other resources.

How to Use Trap Tools

With your Trap Tools in hand, it's time to utilize them effectively. Combine them with a Net (using Spiderweb or Ivy) to create a Pitfall Trap, or pair them with a Thunderbug Capacitor to craft a Shock Trap.

While both traps are effective, remember that certain monsters exhibit immunity to specific traps. For example, a Shock Trap is useless against Rey Dau, a lightning dragon—in this case, a Pitfall Trap is your better option.

Crucially, you can only carry one trap at a time. Strategically deploy your traps when the monster is weakened for optimal results.
