Minecraft Live 2025 Unveils Vibrant Visuals, Flying Ghast, and More
Minecraft Live 2025 has concluded, and Mojang Studios has unveiled an exciting array of updates and new content for the iconic video game. The year's first game drop, dubbed "Spring to Life," is set to launch on March 25, bringing a refreshing update to the Overworld. This update will make biomes feel more immersive and alive with new variants for cows, pigs, and chickens, alongside captivating ambient features like the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and whispers of sand. These enhancements promise to enrich the exploration experience in Minecraft.
The second game drop of the year, yet to be named, introduces innovative elements such as the Dried Ghast block, which can be rehydrated to spawn a Ghastling—a baby ghast variant. This Ghastling can further evolve into a Happy Ghast, which players can harness to fly, accommodating up to four players. The addition of the Locator Bar at the bottom of the screen will help players locate friends, enhancing the social aspect of the game. Mojang emphasized the utility of the Happy Ghast in Survival Mode, likening it to Creative Mode due to its ability to position players anywhere in the sky.
In a significant visual overhaul, Mojang introduced "Vibrant Visuals," a major update aimed at transforming the visual experience of Minecraft without altering gameplay. For more details on this upgrade, check out IGN's dedicated article and their visuals comparison video.
Additionally, Mojang shared an exclusive clip for the upcoming "A Minecraft Movie" and announced a movie-themed in-game live event set to kick off on March 25. This event, taking place in Midport Village, invites players to join Steve and his companions from the movie in a dynamic multiplayer experience, defending the village from a piglin attack across three mini-games. The event runs until April 7, and participants who complete all challenges will earn the coveted Yearn cape.
During our visit to Mojang's offices in Sweden, we learned more about their philosophy on game development, including their decision not to create a Minecraft 2, shift to a free-to-play model, or incorporate generative AI into the game's development.
