Marvel Rivals Donald Trump Mod Reportedly Banned

Nexus Mods Bans Donald Trump Marvel Rivals Mod Due to Sociopolitical Concerns

A recently uploaded Donald Trump mod for the popular game Marvel Rivals has been removed from Nexus Mods, citing violations of its sociopolitical content policy. The mod, which replaced Captain America's in-game model with that of Donald Trump, generated significant online discussion, with some users seeking a corresponding Joe Biden mod for competitive matches. However, both mods are now inaccessible on the Nexus Mods platform.

This action aligns with Nexus Mods' 2020 policy announcement banning mods related to US sociopolitical issues. This policy, implemented during the highly contested 2020 presidential election, aimed to maintain a neutral platform and avoid potentially inflammatory content.

The removal of the Trump mod has sparked mixed reactions online. While many Marvel Rivals players found the mod inappropriate given Captain America's established character, others criticized Nexus Mods' decision as censorship. It's worth noting that this isn't the first instance of Trump-themed video game mods; similar mods for titles like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and XCOM 2 remain available on the platform.

Interestingly, Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games has yet to comment on the use of character mods, including those depicting political figures. The company is currently focused on addressing other game-related issues, such as bug fixes and resolving wrongful account bans.
