Tantalus Media, renowned for its work on Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, has been unveiled as the developer behind the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for the Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the 3DS in 2013 as part of Nintendo's "Year of Luigi," tasked players with helping Luigi collect fragments of the Dark Moon and capture King Boo.

Nintendo announced the Switch remake last September, confirming its June 27th release date in March. While details like file size and a new trailer emerged, the developer remained a mystery until recently. VGC's reporting confirms Tantalus Media's involvement, taking over from the original developer, Next Level Games, as evidenced by the game's credits. Tantalus Media's portfolio also includes the Switch port of Sonic Mania and contributions to the Age of Empires Definitive Editions.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD has received positive early reviews, praised as another successful Nintendo remaster, echoing the success of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, similar to Paper Mario's pre-order issues, Walmart canceled some Luigi's Mansion 2 HD orders earlier this month.

The late reveal of Tantalus Media follows a pattern for Nintendo, mirroring the late announcement of the Super Mario RPG remake's developer, ArtePiazza. The secrecy surrounding the developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Minions suggests this practice may continue. Nevertheless, with launch just days away, the mystery surrounding Luigi's Mansion 2 HD's development is finally solved.
