Leaks Excite Battlefield Fans; EA Yet to Respond
Despite EA's efforts to keep details of their upcoming untitled Battlefield game under wraps by requiring playtesters to sign NDAs, the game has leaked online anyway. Dozens of videos and screenshots have surfaced, showcasing what participants in the closed playtesting have been experiencing.
As we initially reported when these leaks emerged, the footage confirms the "modern" setting that Vince Zampella had previously hinted at, setting this game apart from its predecessors. A quick glance at the Battlefield subreddit reveals a variety of firefights, glimpses of the game's signature destructible environments, and several new mechanics. These include the ability to hang off vehicles and drag wounded teammates to safety.
Surprisingly, EA appears to be taking a lenient approach to these leaks. Typically, publishers are quick to remove leaked early footage due to the risk of showcasing incomplete animations, unfinished user interfaces, and subpar graphics. However, despite the clear breach of confidentiality agreements by those uploading the content, EA has not issued any takedowns.
This relaxed stance might be influenced by the positive reception the leaks have received, in stark contrast to the lukewarm reception of Battlefield 2042. Fans have expressed enthusiasm about what they've seen so far. One player remarked, "I am scared to say that but this game is shaping up very damn well. I hope there are no catches…" Another added, "The animations of the weapons moving around while running / doing anything look better than 2042 to me." A third player exclaimed, "Dude, even in a pre-alpha state, the explosions, bullets, and projectiles whizzing by, buildings crumbling down, dust kicking up. This has so much potential!" Yet another praised the game's sound and destruction, stating, "I can't get over how good the sounds and the destruction look at alpha."
EA expects its next Battlefield game to launch in the fiscal year 2026, which means a release window between April 2025 and March 2026. Following our first official unveiling just last month, it's now confirmed that the new Battlefield will feature a return to a traditional, single-player, linear campaign, much to the delight of fans who missed this element in the multiplayer-focused Battlefield 2042.
