Rumors are swirling that the popular MMORPG, FFXIV, might be making its way to mobile devices. A gaming industry leak from Kurakasis suggests Tencent Games and Square Enix are collaborating on a mobile port.

A Checkered Mobile Past

While this isn't Square Enix's first foray into mobile Final Fantasy titles, their track record is somewhat inconsistent. Games like Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis received mixed reviews, and Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia was ultimately shut down. Therefore, adapting the complex FFXIV experience for mobile is a significant challenge.

Unconfirmed, But Not Impossible

It's crucial to remember this remains unverified. Square Enix hasn't officially commented. However, past collaborations between Square Enix and Tencent lend some credence to the rumor. In 2018, they discussed potential collaborations, and in 2021, then-president Yosuke Matsuda alluded to ongoing projects with Tencent.
