The reviewer expressed disbelief at the apparent lack of care from Firaxis, contrasting Civ VII's state with the far superior launch of Civ VI. The $70 price point was deemed unjustified, with the player stating, "Sid Meyer himself slapped me around and spat in my mouth. I also didn't agree to it."

Another player, WillNever, echoed these sentiments after 2.5 hours, characterizing the interface as an "alpha phase" design that lacks refinement.
