Fans are smashing Civilization 7 on Steam: The game is being heavily criticized

Sid Meier's Civilization VII's rocky launch has left many Firaxis fans disappointed. Steam reviews, currently boasting over 1,000 entries and a dismal 37% rating, paint a picture of a game riddled with issues. Key criticisms center around a dated and clunky interface, underwhelming visuals, and a pervasive sense of incompletion.

One player, Cool CGI Dog, after a mere 1.5 hours of gameplay, described the experience as "blatantly incomplete," citing outdated resource icons, a poor user interface, and a general lack of polish. The reviewer expressed disbelief at the apparent lack of care from Firaxis, contrasting Civ VII's state with the far superior launch of Civ VI. The $70 price point was deemed unjustified, with the player stating, "Sid Meyer himself slapped me around and spat in my mouth. I also didn't agree to it."

Another player, WillNever, echoed these sentiments after 2.5 hours, characterizing the interface as an "alpha phase" design that lacks refinement. While acknowledging intriguing new mechanics, the player argued that the poor interface renders them inaccessible. Extensive work is needed, they claimed, to make the game enjoyable.

The overwhelming consensus among reviewers points to a premature release. The $70 price tag is frequently cited as disproportionate to the game's current quality. The hope remains that Firaxis will address the considerable negative feedback through substantial updates, restoring the series' renowned quality and attention to detail. Currently, however, Civilization VII falls short of expectations.
