Crossplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: A Balanced Look and How to Disable It

Cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, uniting the Call of Duty community. However, crossplay isn't without its drawbacks. This guide details how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6 and weighs the pros and cons.

The Crossplay Dilemma

Disabling crossplay presents a trade-off. Many players opt out to level the playing field, believing it creates a fairer experience. Console players, particularly, often seek to avoid PC players due to the inherent advantages of mouse and keyboard controls – superior aiming precision – and the increased potential for encountering cheaters, despite anti-cheat measures like Ricochet. Disabling crossplay theoretically reduces the likelihood of encountering cheaters.

The downside? Significantly reduced player pools. This translates to longer matchmaking times and potentially poorer connections with other players.

How to Disable Crossplay

Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 is simple. Navigate to the Account & Network settings. The Crossplay and Crossplay Communications toggles are located near the top. Toggle the Crossplay setting from "On" to "Off" using the X or A button. This can be done from within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty menu. Note: The image below shows the setting accessed via Quick Settings after being added as a favorite.

Important Considerations

You might find the crossplay setting greyed out in certain modes, such as Ranked Play. Previously, Call of Duty mandated crossplay in some modes, ironically often resulting in an unfair experience. However, Season 2 of Black Ops 6 allows for crossplay disabling even in competitive modes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
