Should You Fight Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins?
Fighting Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a daunting task. In my experience, it took over an hour to conquer this legendary warrior. However, there are compelling reasons to engage him in battle.
Firstly, the prestige of defeating Lu Bu is immense, serving as a badge of honor among players. Secondly, depending on your alliance with Shu or Wei, you may be forced to confront him during the Battle of Xiapi in Chapter 4. Additionally, defeating Lu Bu at the Battle of Hulao Gate not only earns you the trophy "The Strongest," but also the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd, if you beat him in the post-game.
Lu Bu’s First Phase
Before challenging Lu Bu, ensure you're equipped with the right gear. A sword that can hit multiple times and stagger him is crucial, along with Battle Arts that activate quickly and have a wide range. In my battle, I used Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Accessories like Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell boost your health and defense, essential against Lu Bu's devastating attacks. A weapon with a skill that grants Bravery for each Perfect Evade will help maintain your Bravery throughout the fight.
Initially, Lu Bu will be on horseback, charging around the battlefield. He's fast but pauses occasionally, providing windows to attack with your Battle Arts before retreating. His attacks have limited area of effect, except for Red Hare's aerial slam, which is manageable to dodge. Once his health drops to 80%, Lu Bu dismounts, and the real challenge begins.
Lu Bu’s Second Phase
On foot, Lu Bu's speed and ferocity increase. He often moves with a red aura, making him immune to staggering during his combos. His triple charges require precise evasion, and his grab attack without his spear can be devastating if not dodged.
Lu Bu's most lethal move is signaled by an orange glow, followed by three volleys of massive arrows that can juggle and deplete your health rapidly. To counter this, use a long-range Battle Art like Absconding Slash. Close-quarters attacks like Palm Strike are too risky. Keep your Musou gauge charged for emergency invincibility, which can be a lifesaver if you miss a dodge.
During this phase, Lu Bu is surprisingly easy to juggle, allowing you to quickly charge your Battle Arts and break his Fortitude meter. Stay close to react effectively to his attacks, and remember to evade frequently.
Lu Bu’s Final Phase
Once Lu Bu's health is sufficiently low, he enters Musou Rage, marking the final phase. Now unstaggered, he unleashes a relentless barrage of attacks. Your objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he can execute his Musou attack. Use all your remaining resources—activate Musou attacks, deploy Battle Arts, and strike fast and hard. If Lu Bu completes his Musou attack, he'll immediately reactivate it, forcing you to restart the phase. Breaking his Fortitude here will finally allow you to defeat this legendary warrior.
And that's how to defeat Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins! The game is now available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
